The story line of a game is very important. It can directly affect a games success and how well you enjoy playing it.

The story line in Crysis is quite familiar yet at the same time very unique. Although alien invasions and spaceships are nothing new to the world of stories, some of the details of Crysis are very unique. The effects the spaceship has aswell as how the aliens look and behave are all very unique. My point is, Crysis has a kick ass story line.

The Story
Earth, 2020: A colossal asteroid crashes down to Earth.

(yes, it was 2019, now Crytek is saying 2020)

Global tensions have reached boiling point as the U.S. and North Korea square off in the South China Sea. At stake: a mysterious artifact uncovered by a team of U.S. archeologists.

The North Korean government quickly seizes the area, prompting the U.S. to dispatch an elite team of Special Forces operatives on a rescue mission. During the siege the true nature of the artifact quickly emerges, pointing to the existence of an alien presence on Earth, and ultimately the trigger for a massive-scale alien invasion.

The battle to save Earth begins as the aliens’ flash freeze the tropics into a ghostly-white frozen landscape.

As gamers take up arms against the aliens, they will be outfitted with customizable weapons and a high tech Nanosuit, allowing them to adapt their tactics and abilities to a hostile, ever-changing environment and a mysterious enemy.

first impressions of the demo is it runs like absolute crap, much much worse than the multiplayer beta where everything on medium im hitting 40fps in places, yet in the demo im hitting 15FPS MAX with all settings medium.

First impressions are I'm going to love this game, mechanics are excellent, everything about the controls and missions structure is very Solid, I kind of feel like Solid Snake from MGS3 if he donned a much much much cooler arsenal.

Performance wise I was pleased but not thrilled, I was running no AA, most things High except Objects, Volumetric and 4 other items as Very High. The system ran it reasonably at everything set Very High but there was a little too much lag, not in bushels but when anything interesting is happening it's lagging too much.

After settling on a graphical quality however the end of the demo's "cutscene" was lagging far too much to make me comfortable with my chances later on in the game.

For the record, it looks beautiful on Very High settings, but I think thats a job for SLi or an Ultra 8800. Dx10 hasn't dissapointed at all, the vegatation, building and vehicular destruction systems are definately the best seen in a game (altho the AI is a little lacking, good, but not FEAR quality).

Still overall, immense game that looks set to top all the FPS's we've had yet, miles ahead of Far Cry.
My System Spec:

Vista Home Prem
AMD Athalon X2 5200+ 2.6ghz
2gb 800mhz DDR2 OCZ platinmum RAM
Asus M2N Sli Deluxe Motherboard
BFG Nvidia 8800GS OC 640mb
Primary HD: Seagate Barracuda 250gb (SATA at 3gb/s)
Ran game at 1440x900

Hello Jay !
Looking at your rig right now and I think you must be quite pleased with such a performance from your rig, what was your average fps if you have checked it ?

Wow this is a friendly forum

I was expecting about this based on my Beta participation, I obviously built the rig myself but I had held out hopes that I might see Very High doing better than 12fps.

I played again with everything High (including Objects now) and Volumetric (and the 3 below it) set to Very High and I'm very pleased with the look of the game, granted it's not as nice as everything set Very High, but it's above any other expansive environment game I've ever seen.

I was picking up about 45fps average with those settings, dipping occasioanlly to 25-30, and the frozen tanker at the end was rendering flawlessly, so I could enjoy that "cutscene" this time around. I have a feeling setting everything to Very High except Object detail might not be beyond the realms of possibility, moving that one down seemed to have a noticeable effect on performance and I couldn't honestly see much difference in the game.

Once again proving that BFG cards ALWAYS go the extra mile
