Crytek is a software devolopment team located in Coburg, Germany. Crytek was founded in 1999 by 3 passionate game & software devolopers, they are Cevat, Avni and Faruk Yerli. They released their first (full) game in 2004 titled Far Cry.

The game Far Cry was a massive success due to many aspects (which I won't go in to) but one of which was to do with CryEngine. CryEngine was massive for its day. It offered the best performance to visuals ratio of any other game at the time and probably still holds that crown.

However, just before the release of Far Cry, a police raid at Crytek studios on february 4, 2004 came close to closing Farcry devolopment. But the issue was resolved shortly after, and Crytek finshed Far Cry on track with its projected release date.

Crytek is a company dedicated to producing high quality games. However their goal with Far Cry wasn't just on producing a high quality game. But a game different from all the rest. Crytek is an industry leader in all aspects of games, from graphics to gameplay, Crytek is ultimate.

The success of Far Cry motivated them to further improve the game through patches and updates. It was then only a matter of time until they started work on a new game.

Crytek started working on CryEngine2 after the success of CryEngine1 in Far Cry. On the 30th of January (99 days before this website was launched) Crytek announced Crysis. With the same Goals as Far Cry, Crysis seems to be another unforgettable game from Crytek.

Vital info was released by the Crysis Community regarding the Intel/Crysis Mapping Contest:

"Today we would like to inform you about a little, but still important rule change. In addition we will introduce you to two new Jury members and also present you a new very useful feature on the contest web site"

Rules Change

This is only a small adjustment to the rules page, but still it has a huge impact on the whole contest. Due to the request of the community and after discussing it internally we came to the conclusion that it should be allowed to resize the Intel logos you need to place in your level in order to participate in the contest.

With this change we can guarantee that you have full creativity on the logo placement. Please keep in mind that only re-sizing is allowed while keeping the aspect ratio, overal look and the original color scheme.

The word "size" has been removed from the following rule:

- Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme logo is not allowed to be edited or modified in terms of overall look, color scheme and aspect ratio.

New Jury Members

As you might can see on the Jury sub section of the contest web site a few of the jury members are missing. These are being added within the next couple of days. Today we would like to welcome Dan Blackstone from EA Games and Matt from the InCrysis league to the jury.

Both will rate the top10 levels in the respective categories and contribute to the overall voting of the winners with their expertize and funded knowledge of Crysis and its levels.

New Feature - Important Downloads & Tutorials

As last topic we also would like to present you a brand new feature that has been implemented into the contest homepage. It is an Important Downloads and an Important Tutorials box that store very valuable and important information for all the participants.

The Important Downloads box links to the Intel logo package which includes the logo files you would need to add to your level in order to take part in this contest. The package also includes a tutorial how to apply the logo to decals.

The Important Tutorials box consits of links to the most useful tutorials regarding this mapping contest. Official tutorials for both Singleplayer and Multiplayer level design as well as custom tutorials and a tips and tricks thread created by the community are included.
