Wednesday, 03 October 2007

I belive few of you already know who Inon Zur is, since we did post an article about him back in August but for the ones who don't know,  Inon Zur is the one who is responsible for all the l33t music in Crysis. So we got a great Interview thanks to Epicenter Games, Interview includes topics such as musical background, sources for inspiration, the composing methods, musical taste and much more great stuff about Crytek and Crysis.

3). How did it come to pass that you were chosen to create the score to Crysis?

Like lots of other projects, I pitched my music; I knew the audio director at Crytek and he was familiar with my work.

4). What did you use for inspiration when composing the music for Crysis? Are there any films or references that particularly stand out?

In fact, no. The story of Crysis is very unique, and I believe that it should be complemented by an equally unique game score. I looked for inspiration in some classical music along with some film scores, but nothing was the main influence. However, it is a mixture of several influences along with my own taste.

5). What inspires you as musician? Are there any other composers that you particularly admire?

As a young adult I listened to many styles of music from many composers, trying to look for my own musical identity. I always admired composers like Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Prokofiev and Stravinsky. When I arrived in the US, I was exposed more and more to film score music and learned to love composers like John Williams and Thomas Newman and many more. I usually find it very easy to appreciate their work; I try to understand their styles in order to enrich my own style.

6). Was there anything about the game Crysis that motivated you in regards to your composing the score for it?

As I mentioned earlier, Crysis is a very original story with a lot of twists, and I really like this kind of story. I believe, over all, that it always begins from the actual story; if it is good and compelling, then it has a very good chance to become an interesting game as well. Crysis also has a lot of pans and environments, which opened a whole lot of opportunities for me to compose in a vast array of styles.
