Update: Intel/Crysis Mapping Contest & Patch 1.2 E-mail
Tuesday, 22 January 2008
A new update relating to the ICMC has appeared, which addresses some essential inquires made by the crysis community; specifically two, one of which is the Singleplayer Custom Missions Objectives and the other regarding the Alpha & Beta Screen shot Submissions, both which seem to be important factors for the contest. Having said that, there also seems to be some indication of Patch 1.2 in the works, and judging by the implication of the news it is possibly going to be released before the end of the competition.

Greetings Community

Singleplayer Custom Mission Objectives

With the current rules it is not allowed to alter original XML files when creating a Singleplayer level. This does not include adding custom objects to you level, but is more related to avoiding messy installations and weird mod set ups.

So far the only way of adding new mission objectives to your level was to create a mod out of your Singleplayer level. Since this is not the way of how your level should be created we addressed that issue and already fixed it.

With the upcoming Patch 1.2 for Crysis you will be able to load your modified objectives.xml files out of the respective levels folder. Thus you do not need to create a modification or alter the original .pak files in order to add new missions to your map!

Until Patch 1.2 is getting released we suggest you work on the layout and the design of the Singleplayer level and implement your new missions afterwards.

Alpha & Beta Screenshot Submissions

As for the Alpha & Beta Screenshot Submissions for both Singleplayer and Multiplayer we just wanted to confirm that all you need to submit at the respective dates are a few screenshots of your level.

It is definitely NOT required to submit the whole .cry files in Alpha or Beta stage, since we do not want you to share your map before the final submission takes place. Only the final level submission should include the .cry files of your Alpha and Beta status, so be sure to back them up!

Tutorial - Resizing level.pak

Within the next days we will provide you with a new tutorial how to reduce the size of your level.pak file drastically once the level is finished. This will make it a lot easier to not exceed the upload limit of 100MB.

If you got additional questions feel free to put them in the comments and we will get them answered quickly!
